Witnesses Needed for an Attempted Robbery in Kingstanding

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery at a store in Kingstanding yesterday morning (Monday).

Initial reports suggest that three masked offenders armed with crowbars broke in through the ceiling of the Tesco Express store on Hawthorn Road and demanded access to the safe.

Although no cash was taken, the staff were left badly shaken and one had a mobile phone stolen.

The store remains closed while officers speak to witnesses and await the arrival of specialist forensic investigators.

Police were alerted to the incident at around 5.30am by a member of staff who dialled 999 after the would-be robbers fled.

Officers were immediately dispatched and conducted an extensive search of the area but the offenders were nowhere to be found.

Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area at the time of the incident is asked to call police on 0345 113 5000. Alternatively, people who do not wish to speak to police officers directly can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
